Court House
Built in 1905 as the premises of the Supreme Court, it houses the High Court of the Penang State. The building is a mishmash of styles typical of Straits Colonial architecture. A Logan’s Monument within its compound serves as a memorial to James Richardson Logan. He was an outstanding lawyer of the Straits Settlements, an ethnologist and a fearless legal writer who edited the Penang Gazette and founded the Journal of the Indian Archipelago and Eastern Asia. It is also called Logan’s Journals, an academic masterpiece generally considered as the precursor to the Journal of the Straits Branch.
