The founding of Ghee Hiang dates back to the 1840s, making it the oldest surviving business of any kind on the island. It has since then become as well-known a brand, and an item among the global Chinese community, as perhaps, the bean paste biscuit itself. Known as tau sa peah (biscuits stuffed with powdered bean paste) and beh the saw (flaky biscuits filled with gluey water chestnut paste). Ghee Hiang’s success has spawned numerous copycats but the originals still taste the best. It is advisable to place orders rather than chance a walk-in purchase.
