After the Malaysian government raised the sales threshold to RM3mil on 1st July 2008, only 20 restaurants in Penang are eligible to impose the 5% service tax.

If anyone came across any restaurants that are still charging their customer the 5% service tax, they can submit their complaints to the Customs Department via these e-mail addresses: cd@customs.gov.my or kastam@customs.gov.my or to the Head of the Internal Revenue Division at the respective states’ Customs offices.
