Locating not far from the Kim Seng Restaurant Koay Teow Soup is another coffee shop competing for the appetite of the breakfast-goers. The specialties of this coffee shop is Hokkien Mee; one of my favorite hawker fare and they have been selling it since my parents’ time. You can bet nothing can go wrong with a dish that sold for so long. Each time I visited the coffee shop, I ordered dry version of the Hokkien Mee. I don’t know exactly why. Maybe, no one can make the dry hokkien mee as good as theirs. A regular bowl of the dish (dry or with soup) cost RM3.50. A smaller serving is RM3. You can add other side dishes such as fish ball soup and “bak kut”. The restaurant serves hokkien mee everyday except Monday from 8am to 2.30pm.

Located along Jalan Kampung Benggali at mainland Butterworth, Kim Seng Restaurant is crowded almost everyday during breakfast because it serves one of the best Koay Teow dish. Lorong Selamat is famous for this particular coffee shop that serve arguably the best fried koay teow in Penang Island. The name of the coffee shop is Cafe Heng Huat. At good days, you have to wait for almost an hour for a plate of the delicacy. However, you can order side dishes such as ‘popiah’ or ‘lor bak’ from nearby hawker stalls into the coffee shop to temporary fill your hunger pang. It is served with 3 big prawns and it costs RM6 a plate.

This coffee shop is famous for its dim sum. You can have the dim sum from 6 morning to afternoon and 6.30 pm to midnight everyday. Char Koay Teow or fried flat noodle is one of the Penang’s famous hawker food. It is hard to pick the best one but the stall inside Sunrise Coffee Shop is definitely among the best. It is run by one uncle and one auntie (I believe they are husband and wife). The uncle is in charge of frying and the auntie help around by taking order and serving the food. When the queue is long, the auntie will tell you that you have to wait before it is serve. Sometimes it takes up to 30 minutes. But at least it is serve in time as what the auntie promised.

One my favorite Tom Yam soup noodle can be found inside Joo Heng Coffee Shop. It has plenty of add on (mostly fresh seafood) you can choose for your tom yam dish. After you are satisfied with your choices, just pass over the bowl to the cook. It will be serve with either beehoon or instant noodle. The price is very reasonable.

This coffee shop serve one of the best assam laksa. The place is popular among workers around the vicinity. So it is normally crowded during lunch hour.
